The name "Kalimantan" for the Indonesian part of Borneo means "the Diamond River." Kalimantan is the third largest island in the world with an area of 549,032 km2, an island with rich natural resources, as well as rich variety of fauna and flora. Within a 10 hectare plot alone, there are more than 780 species of trees (on the same surface, there are only 35 tree species in England). The island also grows more than 11,000 species of flowering plants, including the famous corpse flower Rafflesia Arnoldii, the largest flower plant in the world with a diameter of one meter and weighs up to eight kilos. The richness of the plant variety of Borneo is the second richest in the world after the Amazons, from where the products of great value are extracted, for example damar resins, furniture and house materials, rattan and palm sugar. A thousand years ago there were more orangutans ( "orang utan" means "man of the jungle") than men in Borneo, but in the 1960s, only a few thousand remain. Other wild animals living in Borneo are proboscis monkeys, argue wild roosters, tree leopards, tarsiers (mini monkeys) and other animals that are difficult to see even though we are in their most natural habitat.

The Tanjung Puting National Park is a 4,150 square kilometer park located in Central Borneo (Indonesian Borneo), which is the largest surviving home for "the men of the jungle." The park serves as the rehabilitation center for orphaned orangutans or captive orangutans to learn to live in the wild, such as how to make nests or how to find food in the wild. As part of this process is the daily feeding on the platforms of the jungle, where newly released orangutans will be fed with piles of bananas and milks. About 6,000 wild orangutans live here along with other animals such as leopards, wild boars, Proboscis monkeys, gibbons, macaques, frog crocodiles and a lot of birds, among others are the Javan kingfishers and the majestic hornbills. There are about 200 species of wild orchids growing in the national park, including the Kantong Semar (Nepenthes sp.) which feeds on insects.

The trip through the national park on the river boat called klotok is a very romantic experience. We explore the national park as the magical journey leaving feeling like a king or raja in the past time, assisted by a private captain, cooks and crew, sitting at the top of the exposed deck to see the wildlife while we drink our tea or coffee or beer. As dusk comes, one hears the unique voices of wildlife and songs and cries; and as our cook prepares our dinner; the stars begin to decorate the open sky over the river.
