THE DANCE OF KECAK, THE HEAVENLY NYMPH DANCE AND THE FIRE DANCE
Departure : 16.00 p.m. (aproxímate duration: 6 hours).
The Kecak dances are performed in several places in Bali but not many places perform the authentic Kecak dance, and among them is this place where we take you. So join us to attend the performance of one of the most beautiful Kecak dances! In addition, we will see also two other beautiful dances after Kecak, the dance of Sang Hyang Dedari the celestial nymphs and the dance of Sang Hyang Jaran or Fire Dance.
The Kechak Dance is the most unique dance compared to other Balinese dances because the performance is not accompanied by any instrumental music, but with a male choir of 70 dancers, whose shaking, handclaps, their torso movements and songs form the background for the story of Ramayana, the Hindu version of Romeo and Juliet but happy ended. This dance was created in 1932 by the collaboration between Limbak, a famous Balinese choreographer from Bedulu village and Walter Spies, a German origin artist who was Bali long time resident, combining movements and songs from the exorcist Sang Hyang Dance and the episodes of the epic Ramayana story.
After watching the Kecak Dance, the Sang Hyang Dedari Dance or the Celestial Nymphs Dance will be performed in which two pre pubescent girls dance uniformed movements even if their eyes are closed, as they are possessed by the spirits of celestial nymphs. Afterwards, the Sang Hyang Jaran Dance or Fire Dance will be performed, in which the dancer riding a wooden horse will dance over bonfire made from coconut shell without getting hurt while in trance. Do not miss these unique and beautiful dances while you are here!
