The magnificent lake Toba which is the biggest lake of Indonesia together with Samosir island in the middle of the lake and the fertile Karo plateau form the traditional Batakland. While the cosmopolitan city of Medan reflects distinct Malay culture which is best reflected in the grandeur monuments of Grand Mosque and maimoon Palace. Any visit to Sumatra won’t complete without visiting Bukit Lawang in Bohorok, where smuggled orangutans are taught to live in the wild. Sumatran orangutans (Pongo abelii) differs from their cousins in Borneo (Pongo pygmaeus).

Day 1: From Medan to Parapat (Lunch, Dinner):
Upon arrival in Medan, the biggest city in Sumatra with 3.5 million inhabitants, our local guide will pick you up and take you on a short city tour of Medan, visiting Maimoon Palace, Istana Maimoon, the ceremonial palace of the sultans of Deli, designed by an Italian architect and completed in 1888, which is the finest example of the typical east coast Malay architecture. Then we proceed to Mesjid Raya or Great Mosque, with its imposing tiled archway, royal burial ground and adjacent kolam or tank, one of the most beautiful Sumatran mosques. Afterwards we take you to Parapat via palm oil, cocoa and rubber plantation road. Lunch will be provided on the way. In the afternoon we arrive in Parapat, a beautiful lakeside resort overlooking Lake Toba which is the South East Asia’s largest lake. We take you directly to Niagara Hotel or to other similar category hotel in Parapat for having dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Samosir Island Tour (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner):
After having breakfast at your hotel, we pick you up early in the morning for a full day tour by a motorboat to the mystical island of Samosir-the very heart of the Toba Batakland, visiting Tomok Village, famous for the old giant Tombs of the Batak King Sidabutar and his relatives; then to Ambarita village, the site of the well known stone court of King Siallagan, consisting of ancient stone chairs and table where cannibalistic rituals were held in the past. Continuing the tour, we proceed to Simanindo, where we visit the decorated house of the former King Sidauruk, followed by the performance of Tortor and Sigalegale Dance, accompanied by the Gondang Sabangunan ensemble. Lunch will be served at Tao, a small island facing to Simanindo. We return to Niagara Hotel or to other similar category hotel in Parapat for having dinner and overnight.

Day 3: From Parapat to Berastagi (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner):
After having breakfast at your hotel, we leave Parapat for Berastagi Mountain Resort, a delightfully cool and picturesque town that nestles at the northern edge of the Karo Plateau. Stops will be made at Pematang Purba to see the 200 year old long house of Batak King Simalungun, built in the style of a traditional adat house freshly painted in the traditional colours of red, black and white. At Tongging, we see the nice view to Lake Toba and the spectacular Sipiso piso waterfall, while at Paceren, we see the ancient traditional houses of the Batak Karo Village before stop at a large market selling wonderfully fresh fruits, flowers and vegetables. Lunch will be provided enroute. After visiting the local market, we take you directly to the Hotel Grand Mutiara or to other similar category hotel in Berastagi for having dinner and overnight.

Day 4: From Berastagi to Bohorok (Bukit Lawang) then to Medan (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner):
After having breakfast at your hotel; we leave Berastagi for Bukit Lawang, Bohorok, famous for its Orang-utan Rehabilitation Center. Here the captured or young orphaned orang-utans are trained to live in the wild. On the way to get there, stops will be made at the Sibolangit Natural reserve, pleasant patch of undisturbed rainforest set amidst giant ferns and moss-covered trees home to an interesting variety of native flora and birds; and other interesting points. Upon arrival in Bukit Lawang, Bohorok, and then we walk along the Bohorok River for visiting the feeding site of orang utan rehabilitation centre. Lunch will be provided in a local restaurant. We arrive in Medan late in the afternoon and then we take you to Soechi International Hotel or to other similar category hotel in Medan for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Airport (Breakfast):
Breakfast at hotel. Afterwards we leave for Medan’s Kuala Namu airport to catch your onward flight for the next destination.
