THE KOMODO NATIONAL PARK, VOTED AS ONE OF THE NEW SEVEN WONDERS:
Come with us to discover the beauty of Komodo Island (340 km2), the legendary island of dragons - the world's largest lizards, the descendants of the dinosaurs. The beautiful landscapes of unspoilt nature are waiting for you there! Those who get up early will have an amazing dawn above the bay and the beautiful view towards the mountains of the small islands around Komodo. These small islands, located between Sumbawa and Flores, are the home of the world's largest lizards, known by the local name Ora. Ora is native to the islands of Komodo, Padar and Rinca and the eastern part of Flores. It is a lizard but with the physionomy of a snake, with the jaw that can be disconnected, allowing it to swallow victims larger than its mouth, and a cleft tongue that can be inserted and drawn constantly as an organ of two functions, to feel and to savor. The saliva and gastric enzymes of these dragons are very powerful, they can digest horns, bones and hairs of their victims.
Komodo National Park is the home of this world's largest lizard whose scientific name is Varanus Komodoensis. The dragons that can reach three meters in length and weigh up to two hundred kilos, dominate the islands of the national park. They can run fast and can climb trees too, make holes and swim. The first year of the life of Komodo dragons pass over the trees, where they hunt insects, birds and small animals. When they reach a meter long, they are too heavy to live in the trees and they then live on the ground. Above ground, the victims of this animal are increased to wild boars, horses, oxen and especially the deer of the species Cervus timorensis, which can weigh up to 150 kilograms.
Accompanied and protected by the experienced rangers of the national park, you can take photos and see the dragons from close and safe distance from a special enclosure. In the arid hills that reach the height of 735 meters, grow palm trees and shrub vegetation, which are also houses for birds Cockatoos and Megapodes, as well as deer and wild boar. The sea around the island is very rich with plankton, with beautiful coral reefs and very rich marine life, even Balen whales and dolphins often seen in the sea around the islands. A walk along the paradisiacal beaches of Bidadari and Pink beach is a highlight for any visit to the Komodo National Park as well. So come on, let's discover this jurasic animal in its natural habitat!
THE ISLAND OF FLORES:
The island of Flores (14,200 km2) deserves the name given by the Portuguese in the past. It is a very beautiful island but very little explored by the tourism. Its inhabitants still live the way of life of their ancestors, despite Catholicism, they still retain many old beliefs and traditions. The island has a unique charm, the three colored lakes of Kelimutu whose colors change with time. The beauty of its natural landscape awaits your discovery. The island of Flores is a long, narrow, and crumpled island with spectacular volcanoes, beautiful mountains, lakes, grasslands, and forests. In Flores there are about 1.5 million inhabitants, 85% of whom are Catholics. It has a length of 360 kilometers, the width varies from 12 to 70 kilometers. Although rainfall is scarce, high mountains ensure a constant flow of water that allows people to make paddy fields in some places, and to grow corn and sweet potatoes in dry places.
Undoubtedly the most important charm of the Flores island is the Lake Kelimutu which has three colors, sometimes has the same color but often each lake has different color, as a surreal landscape. The color of each lake depends on the dissolving minerals in the lake, its concentration and the changing direction of sunlight. Although often the colors are bright green, turquoise blue and black, they can change to green as the sea, strong blue and red.
