THE BEST OF JAVA: THE BLUE FIRE AND THE MOUNT IJEN CRATER LAKE IN ONE DAY DISCOVERY

java indonesia tour packages java indonesia tour packages java indonesia tour packages

Departure: 18.00 p.m. (Approximate duration: 22 hours).

The experience of climbing to the crater lake of Mount Ijen is very exciting as we can see several attractions at one time: the Blue Fire phenomenon, the most acid lake water in the world, the Moonscape and the amazing mountain view of Java. In addition, in Mount Ijen we witness the Human landscape, the history of human struggle for survival of life. Here we discover the true Hercules, the sulfur miners who work in very extreme condition to make a living! No doubt Mount Ijen is one of the most beautiful volcanoes in the world and this tour is the most economical way (you save one night hotel with us) to discover the beauty of Mount Ijen if you have little time.

Testimonials:
Hi, Andres, Trip to Mount Ijen was a very nice! Not so hard like other volcanoes trips and there are a lot to see! Michael, the guide, and Paco, the driver, did great job. So everything was perfect. Hope to do this trip again! Pascal Basel – Germany
Thank you very much for the great experience, getting to Mount Ijen. It was amazing! We really enjoyed the trip and Frans was a perfect guide. Pia and Andy – Germany
The trip to Mount Ijen was a very good experience and all very well organized. We have been very comfortable and very happy, besides we have passed a very beautiful day and we have seen the Blue Fire and the wonderful crater lake. Thank you very much for your services. Greetings. Estibaliz Fernández Fernández – Spain

We pick you up in the airport or in your hotel at 18.00 p.m. and then we take you to the Gilimanuk harbor, the western most point of Bali, to take the ferry that carry us to the Ketapang harbor in Java. We then continue our trip by jeep to the Paltuding Ranger Station. Here hot coffee or tea and late dinner will be served. After around 2 hour climbing we get to the inner crater rim and then we descend to the Blue Fire spots near the shore of the lake. We stay close to observe this rare phenomenon and then to see how the sulfur workers dig the sulfur rocks and then carry the heavy basket filled with sulfur rocks from the lake shore to the inner crater rim and then finally to the parking.

The crater lake of Mount Ijen is undoubtedly one of the world's most beautiful places, not only because of the lunar landscape created by the volcano’s eruptions on the crater and its surroundings, but also because of the Blue Fire, which is a unique phenomenon, which can only be seen at night and only can be found in two places in the world: in Mount Ijen and in Iceland. In addition to this, the water of the lake crater of Mount Ijen is the world’s most acid water with the degree of acidity (pH) of 0.5. There are only two lakes in the world with nearly such acidity namely one in Costa Rica and the other one in New Zealand. The trip to Mount Ijen is also a very interesting trip because there is also opportunity to see the human landscape in which we witness the struggle of the Sulfur miners to survive! They every day go down to the sulfur deposit near the lake to dig the sulfur rock into small pieces and then to carry the stones in heavy baskets of around 80 kilos from the lakeshore to the summit and then to the collection point, fighting with the poisonous sulfur gas just by biting a wet cloth in a very cold environment that sometimes can reach up to 5 degrees or less, carrying loads more than the weight of their body. Sunrise from the shore of lake of Mount Ijen is equally spectacular presenting the feast of colors (weather permitting) of the reddish and blue sky, the green lake water, the yellow sulfur deposit and the white sulfur smoke; and the other reward is on our return we will see the beautiful landscape of Javanese mountains and valleys, among them are Mount Merapi, Mount Meranti and Mount Raung and the surrounding valleys. On the way back we also stop to see the rest of Javanese rain forest with her giant ferns from the Dinosaur time, beside the coffee and clove plantations owned by Gudang Garam cigarette factory. Then we take you to a local restaurant for brunch before we take the ferry that carry us back to Bali. Afterwards we take you back to your hotel in Bali. So, don’t ever miss this very exciting trip while you are in Bali (and you save one night hotel with us)!

Then we climb up again to the inner crater rim (2386 meter) to stop for a while to contemplate the wonderful view of the green turquoise lake of Mount Ijen, with sulfur smokes drifting out of the surface, making a landscape that looks like a place beyond earth. This volcano is certainly one of the most beautiful places in the world, not only because it reminds the lunar landscape, but also by the large crater lake with green turquoise color which is the most acidic lake in the world, and also by the human landscape of the true Javanese Hercules.

Each day the miners which are local people around Mount Ijen, go down to the crater lake shore to extract sulfur stones. The sulfur in the form of gas comes out of the earth surface crystallized in rocks which then chopped into small pieces by these miners to be carried afterwards on heavy baskets that can reach 80-100 kilos (while the body weight of the miners is about 60 kilos). During the climbing we will pass frequently those miners carrying heavy baskets from the edge of the lake to our starting point of climbing. From here we go down for about 300 meter to the Blue Fire spots to watch the unique and the rare phenomenon from closer distance. Sunrise at the bottom of crater of Mount Ijen is colorful and beautiful with the feast of colors. During the climbing we will pass frequently those miners carrying heavy baskets from the edge of the lake to our starting point of climbing. On the way down we will enjoy the stunning views of Jawa with its lovely volcanoes, mountains and valleys. The songs of wild birds accompany our way down as the morning light shines on us to take the chill away. Afterwards we return to the parking lot, and then we take the same way back to the city, stopping to admire the rest of the tropical rain forest of Java, the coffee and the clove plantations on the slope of Mount Ijen. Indonesian food brunch will be served in the local restaurant. Afterwards we take the same way to Ketapang and lunch will be served in a local restaurant. Continuing the tour, we go along the north coast of Jawa, through teak forests, sugarcane plantations, and plantations of fruit trees like mango and tamarind up to the town of Pasir Putih near Situbondo which is inhabited by Javanese fishermen. Afterwards we take you along the inland road to the mountains of Bromo Tengger Semeru where Javanese Hindus of Tengger live. Inside of the plantation live unique self-sufficient communities who work in the plantations. Sukamade Beach is famous for its turtle conservation program. Regularly turtles come to lay eggs in this secluded beach and we (if we are lucky) will have a rare opportunity to see from a close distance the time when they put their eggs inside of the hole and help the rangers to collect their eggs for hatching in the protected buildings. This is really an unforgettable experience. In the darkness you wait for the lamp signals from the local guide if a turtle is coming ashore to lay eggs. A female turtle may lay more than one hundred eggs at one time. They usually start landing at around 19.30 in the evening and return again to the sea at around midnight. The road to Sukamade is a bumpy one but worth exploring. The accommodation in Sukamade Beach are very basic, even so the trip offer a very unique experience and adventure in the midst of the virgin forest and pristine nature.
